Indian Sudoku Championship 2010
Sudoku, dubbed as the hottest puzzle sensation since the Rubiks Cube gained worldwide popularity in early 2005. The first World Sudoku championship (WSC) was held in March 2006 in Lucca, Italy. The 5th WSC will be held in April 2010 in Philadelphia, USA. Logic Masters India in association with TechFest at IIT Bombay, invites you to test your logical skills in the Indian Sudoku Championship and get an opportunity to represent India at the WSC. All resident Indian nationals, irrespective of age, can participate in Indian Sudoku Championship. The sudoku-solving skills of contestants will be tested through the regular Classic sudokus as well as different sudoku variations which appear in the WSCs. Top rankers at the Indian Sudoku Championship will be eligible to represent India at the 5th World Sudoku Championship to be held in Philadelphia in April 2010.

Rules and Regulations
The Indian Sudoku Championship will consist of two online rounds on 3rd and 9th January 2010 to select the top 30 participants for the finals. There will also be an elimination round to select the top 30 from the on the spot participants on 23rd January 2010. The finals for these 60 participants will be held on 24th January 2010.     Hey,
    Congos.
    Your performance was above par and simply exceptional.

    The minimum time I took to solve any of the classic sudoku mentioned there was > 15mins.
    Is there any particular strategy you follow while solving those or does it depend upon practice?

    there is no particular strategy i suppose...atleast i don follow any... i also took part in this championship held during techfest and was in the top 40
    i have been solving classic sudokus but was new to the others but could solve it... so i guess there isn't any!
    may be for better speed ur brain should work fast which in my case is slow!

Consecutive Heads

Let's say A keep tossing a fair coin, until he get 2 consecutive heads, define X to be the number of tosses for this process; B keep tossing another fair coin, until he get 3 consecutive heads, define Y to be the number of the tosses for this process. 1) Calculate P{X>Y} 2) What's the expected value of X 3) What's the expected value of Y This is probably the hardest puzzle I have ever put on my blog. Hence, I will post its solution in the post directly rather than on comment. Solution: 1) (Solved by me finally after 13 months :)) Make a state diagram. Let the state be (a,b) where a is the number of consecutive heads streak "A" is on currently and b is the number of consecutive heads streak "B" is on currently. So, (0,3) (1,3) are final accepted states and (2,0) (2,1) (2,2) (2,3) are failure states. If you get tails, your contribution to the state reaches to "0" f(State) = P(X>Y | "State" configuration initially)
